Zachary March 12, 1918 - Dec. 21, 2006 Mary E. (Slaven) Zachary, 88, Anderson, died Dec. 21, 2006, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born March 12, 1918 in Jamestown, Tenn., and resided in Anderson for 64 years. Mary was a homemaker and wonderful mother. She was a former member of Victory Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church. She loved gardening and had a wonderful collection of teddy bears. A special thanks to all the Hospice Nurses, especially Joyce. She is survived by her six children, Peggy McCord of Anderson, Karen Jones of Anderson, Sharon and husband Neil Allmond of Jackson, Ky., Jack L. Zachary of Anderson, Scott Zachary and Carol See of Anderson, and Donald Zachary of Anderson; siblings, Dottie Wheler of Florida, Evelene Slavern of Tennessee, Francene Roberts of Anderson, Ken Slaven of Tennessee and Joe and wife Barb Slaven of Tennessee. Also surviving are approximately 180 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Katie Rinker and Mary Lou Giffey; several nieces and nephews; and stepmother, Edna Bow; three stepsisters, Cathryn Stevens, Rhonda Slaven and Darlene Prior; and a stepbrother, John Slaven Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Walter Sid Zachary, in 1985; parents, John Cal and Octie Lena (Downs) Slaven; siblings, Dorothy Zachary, Ima Jean Choate, Meade Slaven, Bud Slaven and William Lester Slaven; son, Walter Gene Zachary; son-in-law, Leslie McCord; and a daughter-in-law, Rita Zachary. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, with Dr. Vance Davis officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the South Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospice or American Cancer Society. |
